Do any of you remember when you did not have to get out of your car to pump gas?
If so, you may also remember while someone filled your tank, they also washed your windshield and checked your oil. Okay, I am dating myself, but there was a time when the gas in your tanks started as American crude oil right out of the oilfields of Texas, Arkansas and Pennsylvania.
In 1901, there was an oil gusher at the Spindletop Oilfield in Beaumont, Texas. Hundreds of wealthy entrepreneurs saw the door open for opportunity. Joseph S. Cullinan was one of them and, with the help of an investment manager, started the Texas Fuel Company, which later was renamed The Texas Company. They became the nation’s most prominent oil refinery.
