A retired over-the-road owner/operator trucker, Barry Chesler started building models more than 50 years ago. He has built a scale model of more than seven of the real vehicles he operated, and dozens more.
To build a 1/25 scale White Road Boss rollback truck, Barry started with an AMT White Road Boss kit. The rollback body is from a DieCast International model. Barry made all the custom decals and license plates. The model is realistically weathered to look like a salvage company truck. The air cleaner was scratch built and the front bumper is custom stainless steel. The exhaust stack is polished aluminum.
To create the B&G Salvage International wrecker, Barry used a chassis from the DieCast rollback model. The wheelbase was shortened to mount the wrecker body. Again, all the decals were homemade, as were the license plates. There is slight weathering on the model. Welding tanks and a spare gas can are located on the wrecker body.
Barry also built a 1/34 scale Freightliner rolloff truck. It is a model of a friend’s real 2010 Freightliner M2. The model started as a First Gear Freightliner tandem-axle truck with a Jerr-Dan rollback body. Barry removed the rollback body and rear axle, and shortened the frame. The rolloff frame and the container box were scratch built from plastic.
