Dave has one of only three of these pieces, which he purchased on eBay (after 10 years of watching for such an item to come for sale). It’s a model of the Hoover Dam.

The full-size piece of Bantam equipment that featured a box, put there to hide a dent. When SpecCast used this full size piece, owned by Dave, to build a model, the box was included (even though it was not original to the piece of equipment).

Dave has an extensive collection of literature, which comes in handy when he’s restoring a full-size piece of construction equipment.

Conrad's new Terex Superlift 3800 has AMAZING DETAILS

11/3/2015

Originally, it was presented as a prototype model at Bauma 2013. As of this summer, the amazing new Terex Superlift 3800 model from Conrad is available.

Conrad did a really great job and provided a highly detailed crawler-crane model. There are also some new features on this die-cast crane. Of course, the functionality is perfect, with the typical massiveness of Conrad models. Missing or broken parts were not evident on the model. When comparing the dimensions, Conrad perfectly copied the major dimensions, such as the superstructure width.

The Base Crane
All crawlers run easily; the 14 bottom and two support rollers work perfectly. Unfortunately, the same crawlers have been used on the LR1750 or CC8800 crawler crane models.

The well-known plastic pins connect both crawler frames. The idler is spring-loaded, so it keeps the track shoes well-tensioned. Conrad also copied the travel motor with indicated hydraulic connections. In reality, it would provide 1,400 KN in travel force on each.

The main counterweight frame is placed in-between the crawlers, and two counterweight plates per side would provide a total of 50 metric tons main counterweight.
Also, the four jack-up cylinders are not missing; a small bar needs to be assembled and keeps them in position. With these, the main crane is able to unload itself by extending these four cylinders. Afterwards, the trailer can leave and the crane can assemble its crawler frames.
