Competitive radio-controlled (RC) truck pulling became a Berry family affair quite by chance. It started unexpectedly at a farm toy show, as Randy Berry explained: “My son, Joe, and I were browsing through the Ashland, Ohio, farm toy show 15 years ago. A vendor had a scale model truck on display built entirely for pulling competition. And it was radio-controlled. We looked it over and admired how well-built the model was. Joe and I had discussed pulling with the real trucks, but shelved the idea because of the high cost. While still at the show, we discussed the idea of going the route of RC truck pulling. You guessed right; we took advantage of that truck, because it was ready for competition. And so, we bought it.” Randy continued, “We made that purchase in December. A model RC truck pulling contest was being held nearby the following February. Joe and I went to that event to learn more about the competition. A whole different world opened up for us. We were surprised by the interest and how well organized it was. After attending, we were hooked and have been actively involved with RC truck and tractor pulling ever since.” |
