Born and raised in Minoa, N.Y., Kevin Skinner was like a lot of kids who played in the dirt with his toy trucks. Always meticulous, he carefully cleaned his toy trucks and construction equipment and put them away in the garage after a day of play. That’s probably why he still has many of those toys today. His favorite was a Ford 755A backhoe made by Ertl, which is now a part of his collection. Kevin’s love for heavy equipment came at an early age. His dad, Brian, was a certified arborist and worked for Lewis Tree Service. “My dad would take me to a lot of land clearing jobs and I would sit and watch for hours, fascinated with the equipment. I saw skidders, chippers, rollers, you name it. I got to sit in a lot of the equipment. The tree stuff my dad did was cool, but I liked playing in the dirt, so I knew operating heavy equipment was what I wanted to do when I grew up,” he said. |
