 Click to view electronic issue. | Barry Chesler, a retired over-the-road owner/operator trucker, of Scottsville, N.Y., has customized and scratch built models for over 50 years, and he isn’t done yet. “My goal,” he said, “is to build a scale model of every full-sized truck I drove in my 50-plus-year truck driving career. Along the way, I’ve also built dozens of trucks that I never drove.” Barry got an early start at model building. “I started building plastic scale models when I was about 10 years old. I built ships, airplanes, cars and, especially, trucks.” Barry also started buying commercial trucks at an early age. “The first commercial truck I bought was a 1963 Ford N700 flatbed,” he said. “I was just 19 at the time, but a friend of mine and I needed it to carry a 1960 Ford late model stock car that we built to race tracks in western New York. Every weekend, I put 350 miles or more on the flatbed, driving the stock car to tracks.” |
