Dean Riessen, of Spencer, Iowa, grew up on a farm, so collecting and selling farm toys seemed a natural fit. Dean began collecting farm toys in 1983, but when his wife, Carol, realized there wasn’t any more room for both them and the toys, Dean and Carol partnered for most of the next 15 years to sell farm toys. But showing farm toys at local toy shows quickly taught the Riessens two lessons—there is a strong market for toy trucks and an even stronger market for 1/64 scale models.
After some heavy reflection, the Riessens quit harvesting the farm toy market and began transporting toy trucks to toy shows. They named their company DC (Dean and Carol) Toy Trucks and have been 1/64 scale toy truck collectors and replica dealers ever since.
