As an only child, Joe Vanko, Elgin, Ill., was never into video games, board games or other sibling activities.
“Being an only child, I had to rely a lot on my imagination for entertainment. That could have gotten me in a bunch of trouble, but I discovered 1/64 scale farm toys, trucks and construction equipment at an early age,” he said.
Vanko has collected 1/64 scale models most of his life, whether it was toys his dad, Jeff, bought for him at the National Farm Toy Museum and Ertl factory in Dyersville, Iowa, or Hot Wheels and Matchbox toys his mom, Patti, bought him any time she went to the store.
