Stew Reed’s life has revolved around construction equipment and ready mix trucks, so it is only natural that his retirement gravitates toward restoring and customizing those types of models.
Stew lives in Prescott, Ontario, Canada, along the St. Lawrence River across from New York State, moving to the area from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, when he retired in 2018.
His childhood in Toronto was permeated with the massive heavy machinery, as Stew’s grandfather was superintendent for a large construction company that specialized in concrete and heavy structures. Stew’s stepfather drove ready mix trucks, which deliver concrete to construction sites, and eventually Stew and both his brothers also became ready mix truck drivers.
“I started off as a mechanic and got out of that because I liked operating and driving better,” he said.
“I spent all of my life working in construction and heavy equipment and truck driving in Toronto. I’ve driven ready mix concrete for the last 35 years and I retired last year,” he said. “I’ve grown up around every piece of machinery there is. It’s hard to get that out of the blood.”
